Alena Bičáková, Ph.D.

She holds an M.Phil. in Economics from the University of Cambridge, UK, and a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University, USA. She then worked for two years as a researcher at the European University Institute in Florence. Since 2007, she has been working at CERGE-EI and the IDEA think tank. Her research focuses mainly on labor market and education economics. In recent years, she has worked, for example, on the impact of parental leave duration on maternal and child outcomes, or on the effects of working from home on the employment and work-life balance of women with young children. In her joint work with international co-authors, she investigates the impact of the economic situation before entering college on the number, outcomes, and careers of students. Since 2023, she has been engaged in the Talent Project, which focuses on the research, identification and support of gifted children in the Czech Republic.
