results has been too low, or even zero in some of the years between 2010 and 2014.
Finally, panel D (bottom right) compares the Czech Republic’s publication output in each
quartile and the top decile with the average output of the other compared countries during
each year.19 In all countries, including the Czech Republic, publication output above the
median AIS has been fairly stable. However, the Czech Republic has shown significant
increase in the 3rd quartile.

newly registered in the WoS database in the years 2010–2014, and by an increase in the number of articles
published in already registered journals. The WoS database is usually expanded by less prestigious journals
(i.e. the lower segment). However, adding new journals into the WoS database shifts the limits of the
quartiles and decile based on the AIS.
