Jan Švejnar, the director of IDEA, wins 2015 IZA Prize in Labor Economics

The 2015 IZA Prize in Labor Economics goes to Jan Švejnar, the  founder and director of IDEA and chairman of the Executive and Supervisory Committee of CERGE-EI in Prague. He was recognized for his work on economic issues in labor market, development and the transition from socialist to market economies.

Presentation of the EEAG Report on the European Economy

A presentation of the EEAG Report on the European Economy took place on Monday March 30 at 9:30am at the CERGE-EI. A number of guests discussed the macroeconomic prospects of Europe and several trends that affect European politics and economy including migration and energy strategy.

(Non-)discrimination against female job applicants

The latest IDEA study by Vojtěch Bartoš titled "(Non-)Discrimination Against Female Job Applicants for Maternity-Related Reasons: Experiment" investigates potential discrimination of female job applicants in the form of a lower probability of getting invited to a job interview. The age of applicants is focused both on the period prior to the time Czech women usually give borth to the first child  and on women with young children that might "limit" their working capacity.

Jan Švejnar, the founder of the think-tank IDEA at CERGE-EI, was a guest in Hyde Park, a polular talk-show of the Czech Television channel.

Election Outcomes Affected by Ballots

The new IDEA study "How Details Given on Ballot Papers Affect the Outcomes of Local and Regional Elections" concludes that election success of a given candidate may depend on marginal  factors, for example on the line-up of names or on the slates position on randomly ordered ballot papers.
